Strong Arsenal side beat Bees in friendly

Alan McCormack and Tony Craig were both given game time as Brentford’s development side lost 4-0 to a strong Arsenal side in a friendly on Tuesday.

The pair were joined in defence by summer signings Daniel O’Shaughnessy and Aaron Greene, while Jack Bonham played the full 90 minutes in goal and saved a penalty.

They were up against a Gunners side packed with experience, as Mikel Arteta, Jack Wilshere, Mathieu Debuchy and Abou Diaby continued their rehabilitation from injury, while Mathieu Flamini also started.

All four goals came in the first 37 minutes, with Wilshere scoring the opener early on after Bonham had saved from Diaby.

The England midfielder then set up Daniel Crowley for the second, before Alex Iwobi helped himself to a couple before half-time.

While McCormack lasted the whole game for the Bees, Craig was withdrawn after 57 minutes as Gradi Milenge joined the likes of Tom Field and Zain Westbrook in gaining useful experience.

Bonham prevented a fifth as he saved Chris Willock’s spot-kick after the striker had been brought down by McCormack, while Jermaine Udumaga forced a good save late on from Arsenal keeper Matt Macey.
