Ex-Mainz coach to join Brentford staff

Brentford have appointed coach Flemming Pedersen into the new role of head of football philosophy and player development.

The 52-year-old will take up his post on 1 July and will work as part of the Bees’ first-team coaching staff under new boss Marinus Dijkhuizen.

Pedersen, who had been coaching at Bundesliga side Mainz until February, will also be responsible for setting out Brentford’s football philosophy and structuring individual development plans for players.

Rasmus Ankersen, the club’s co-director of football, said: “Flemming has a lot of experience of developing and implementing a football philosophy.

“I admire his passion and his open-mindedness and I am sure the players will benefit tremendously from his expertise and experience.”

Pedersen began coaching in his native Denmark aged 18 and worked in youth development for more than 10 years.

He was head coach at Danish third-tier side FC Helsingør before he turned 30, worked at FC Copenhagen and then spent eight years with FC Nordsjælland, becoming first-team coach in 2011 before following manager Kasper Hjulmand to Mainz in 2014.
