Douglas told he can leave Brentford

Brentford boss Marinus Dijkhuizen has confirmed midfielder Jonathan Douglas has been placed on the transfer list.

Douglas, who joined Brentford from Swindon four years ago, was only given a new deal in February, extending his contract at Griffin Park to 2016.

However a glut of new arrivals in midfield – several of whom played in the Bees’ impressive 2-0 friendly win over Stoke on Saturday – has pushed Douglas down the pecking order.

Dijkhuizen said: “We decided that he is not part of the future of the club.

“It is a tough decision. He had a great time here and has done a lot of good things for the club.

“Sometimes this is part of football. Sometimes you get a new contract, sometimes you are out of contract.

“He still has one year but we see no future [for him] so we have given him a lot of time to find a new one.”

Douglas, 33, has made 169 league appearances for the Bees, scoring 17 goals.
