Donaldson returns to haunt Brentford

Birmingham 1 Brentford 0

Former Brentford striker Clayton Donaldson haunted his old club with a first-half header that led to the only goal of the game at St. Andrews.

Donaldson’s 40th-minute header was turned in to his own net by defender James Tarkowski to earn the Blues a first win in ten games and stop the Bees moving into the play-off places.

Birmingham, despite the financial worries which threaten to stop them finishing the season, gave a battling display in a game of few chances.

After Tarkowski’s unfortunate own goal, Jonathan Douglas missed Brentford’s best opportunity when he headed Jon Toral’s cross over the bar.

The Bees were also unable to create much after the interval and the hosts held on even though they had Stephen Gleeson sent off late on for stamping on Alex Pritchard.

Brentford (4-2-3-1): Button; Odubajo (McCormack 76), Moore, Tarkowski, Dallas; Douglas, Diagouraga (Judge 60); Jota (Bidwell 60), Pritchard, Toral; Gray.
Subs not used: Bonham, Dean, Smith, Long.
