Dean sent off as Brentford lose

Brentford 1 Blackburn 3

Brentford ended their season with a defeat at Griffin Park, where Harlee Dean was sent off.

Charlie Mulgrew and Danny Guthrie netted first-half goals for Blackburn, who were relegated despite their win.

Lasse Vibe pulled a goal back in the second half for the Bees, who finished 10th in the Championship table.

Dean was red-carded with seven minutes to go after bringing down Marvin Emnes in the box.

Craig Conway blasted home the resulting penalty but Nottingham Forest, managed by former Brentford boss Mark Warburton, beating Ipswich meant they stayed up on goal difference and Rovers went down to League One.

The visitors made the perfect start, scoring twice in the opening 15 minutes.

Mulgrew put them ahead with a superb free-kick in the 10th minute and a mistake by Dan Bentley led to them doubling their lead.

The Bees keeper saved at his near post from Sam Gallagher but the ball broke to Guthrie, and Bentley allowed the midfielder’s shot to squirm through him and into the net.

Gallagher had a great chance to make it three but was unable to find the target at the far post after being found by Elliott Bennett’s left-wing cross.

Brentford dominated for large spells of the game and keeper David Raya produced a number of saves, including a superb stop to deny Vibe.

Raya was beaten, though, when Vibe nudged in Dean’s right-wing cross.
