Carsley expects win over Forest to be his last game in charge

Lee Carsley says he expects Brentford to appoint a new full-time head coach in the coming days.

Swansea City assistant manager Pep Clotet is the favourite to get the job and Carsley believes the win against Nottingham Forest was his last game in charge.

The 41-year-old took over after the sacking of Marinus Dijkhuizen in September but insisted he did not want the role on a permanent basis.

He remains of that view despite guiding Brentford to 16 points from nine games, including the 2-1 victory over Forest.

Carsley said: “I see that today as the last game. The remit was to try and get us into a better position. I think we’re doing that now.

“It’s always easier for a manager to come in after a win, and the lads are in good order.

“[Injured players] Josh McEachran, Jota and Maxime Colin are on the horizon so the squad’s only going to get stronger. We’re moving in the right direction.”

Carsley, who says he wants to return to a role with the development squad, was pleased with the impact his substitutes made against Forest, after Harlee Dean was sent off.

He said: “I thought in the first half we were too slow in possession.

“I don’t think the international break did us any favours. It took us 60 minutes to get our energy and our legs back.

“The two lads coming on, Hoff and Sergi, made a difference and the whole team got better as the game went on.

“Even with 10 men I didn’t want to settle for a draw because I thought we did enough second half to get a result.”
