Button: It was time for a change

Button had a poor spell in the second half

David Button said he left Brentford for neighbours Fulham because it was “time for a change”.

The 27-year-old made 141 appearances for the Bees over three seasons, before his move across west London.

He kept a clean sheet on his Fulham debut, making a couple of excellent saves in the 1-0 win over Newcastle on Friday.

Explaining his move, Button said: “I had a great three years at Brentford but felt it was time for a change and the opportunity to come to Fulham arose and it was something that interested me.

“I’m thankful for everything that happened at Brentford but am fully focused on Fulham now.”

He conceded the move would not have gone down well with Bees fans, but insisted he still held affection for them.

“I know it’s not going to be a popular decision,” he said.

“Probably in their eyes it’d have been nicer for me to move on to a different club, but it is what it is.

“Hopefully they remember the good times and what I did for the club.

“I’ve got a great respect for the fans and for the way they treated me while I was there.”
