Burnley complete big-money signing of Gray from Brentford

Burnley have completed the signing of striker Andre Gray from Brentford.

Gray, 24, has agreed a three-year contract at Turf Moor and moved for a fee in excess of £7m after a year at Griffin Park.

The Clarets made an approach when he rejected a transfer to Bristol City after the Robins had an offer for him accepted.

Hull City had also been trying to sign him but were unable to agree a fee with Brentford.

“Andre is a player who we have been aware of since his Hinckley Town days in non-League,” Burnley manager Sean Dyche told his club’s website.

“He has worked very, very hard to get to the level he’s at. He has risen up the ladder and, in many ways, had a similar pathway to two former strikers here – Danny Ings and Charlie Austin.

“In that respect there is a rawness, a hunger and a great desire from him to continue his education and go even further, and we intend that to be with us in the immediacy and also in the future.”

Gray scored 18 goals in his first season in the Championship, helping Brentford reach the play-offs.
