Brentford’s poor start continues with defeat at Middlesbrough

Middlesbrough 3 Brentford 1

Brentford dropped to fourth from bottom of the Championship after losing at the Riverside Stadium.

Lasse Vibe equalised for them early in the second half after Cristhian Stuani had put Middlesbrough ahead.

However, Stuani scored again and Albert Adomah’s goal sealed a deserved victory for Boro, who are second in the table.

The Bees, who host Preston on Saturday, have won only one of their opening six matches of the season.

They fell behind on 35 minutes when Stuani netted after being set up Diego Fabbrini.

Brentford were gifted an equaliser when keeper Dimi Konstantopoulos’ mis-hit clearance fell straight to Vibe, who tucked away his second goal in three matches.

But former Harrow Borough winger Adomah, on as a substitute, crossed for Stuani to score and then got on the scoresheet himself by rifling in Boro’s third after a fine run.

Brentford: Button, Colin, Dean, Barbet, Bidwell, Kerschbaumer, McCormack (Woods 90), Diagouraga, Vibe, Judge, Djuricin (Udumaga 77).
Subs not used: Bonham, O’Connell, Canos, Smith.
