Brentford striker Scott Hogan has been named the Championship’s player of the month for September.

Hogan scored six goals in five matches, including a hat-trick against Preston. He has netted seven goals this season and 14 in 2016.

Tammy Abraham, who has scored 11 goals for Bristol City since joining them on loan from Chelsea, was on the shortlist for the award, as was Norwich’s Wembley-born midfielder Jacob Murphy.

“I am delighted that Scott has won this award,” said Brentford boss Dean Smith.

“He has fully deserved it on his performances this month. To score six goals in a month is a fantastic achievement and I am really pleased for Scott.”

Abraham, the division’s top scorer this season, was recently named the PFA fans’ player of the month for the Championship.
