Brentford’s plans for a new stadium have received a further boost with the news that all land required for the development is now in the hands of the local council.

The club called it a “significant milestone” as it looks to build a 20,000 capacity stadium on a 10-acre site at Lionel Road South.

The London Borough of Hounslow has completed the compulsory purchase order required to secure the land, after a process lasting 18 months, and has taken freehold possession of the site.

Brentford have entered into a series of lease arrangements, and will take freehold possession once the stadium is completed.

Last month, West London Sport revealed Brentford had held talks with several rugby clubs, including London Irish, about a potential groundshare at Lionel Road.
