Brentford 1 Nottingham Forest 0

Scott Hogan’s 28th-minute goal gave Brentford their second home victory in three days.

Josh Clarke crossed from the right and after keeper Stephen Henderson produced a superb double save to deny Hogan and then Lewis Macleod, the Bees striker tucked away the loose ball.

Brentford, who beat Ipswich 2-0 on Saturday, went close to doubling their lead in the second half when Macleod fired against the bar from near the edge of the penalty area.

Nottingham Forest ended the match with 10 men after Damien Perquis picked up a second yellow card for an 89th-minute challenge on Romaine Sawyers.

Hildeberto Pereira squandered a great chance to equalise when he hesitated after finding himself in on goal and was unable to find a way past keeper Dan Bentley, who denied Britt Assombalonga at point-bank range in injury time.

It was a deserved win for Dean Smith’s side, helped by Ryan Woods and Nico Yennaris forming an excellent midfield partnership.

Yennaris went close for them in the second minute when he fired narrowly wide.

Macleod almost scored with a free-kick five minutes before the break, with John Egan heading wide from the resulting corner.

Egan, who scored both goals against Ipswich, was again a major threat at set-pieces and saw a header from Sam Saunders’ late corner saved by Henderson.

Brentford: Bentley; Colin, Egan, Dean, Elder; Yennaris, Woods; Clarke, Sawyers, Macleod (Saunders,82); Hogan.
