Brentford v Forest player ratings
Scott Hogan’s goal was enough to give Brentford a deserved victory against Nottingham Forest at Griffin Park. Here’s how we rated each Bees player in Tuesday’s 1-0 win.
Daniel Bentley: 8
What a brilliant prospect Bentley is. He commands his area so well and when called into action he produced fine saves to deny
Hildeberto Pereira and, in injury-time at point-blank range, Britt Assombalonga.
Maxime Colin: 6
Was given problems on the flank, where much of the Forest threat came from. Stuck to the task though and used the ball well.
John Egan: 8
Defended well again and is a real asset from set-pieces. The defender, who scored twice on Saturday, went close to scoring again with a towering header from substitute Sam Saunders’ late corner.
Harlee Dean: 6
Was also caused some problems by Forest but he dug in and battled well.
Callum Elder: 7
Had a very decent game at left-back. Doesn’t have the marauding style of Jake Bidwell but is comfortable on the ball and likes to get forward.
Josh Clarke: 7
Usually a right-back, the youngster is making the most of a chance to use his pace and enthusiasm in a more attacking role. Clarke doesn’t always look convincing as a winger, but he’s getting the job done – he was involved in many of Brentford’s best moments, including the goal.
Nico Yennaris: 8
A revelation in midfield alongside Ryan Woods in what is developing into a very good partnership. Yennaris was committed, passed the ball well and set the tone for Brentford’s display when he fired wide early on.
Ryan Woods: 8
This guy has the potential to go to the very top. His ability to pull the strings even in a congested, unforgiving Championship midfield is a joy to watch. Forest’s Henri Lansbury has always had talent but he was totally outshone by Woods, who was excellent from start to finish.
Lewis Macleod: 8
Had a fine game and was unlucky not to score when a second-half effort hit the bar. Before that, he was denied by a cracking save, with Hogan tucking away the resulting loose ball. Macleod was always busy, always showing for the ball and always willing to have a pop at goal.
Romaine Sawyers: 6
It hasn’t quite clicked yet for the summer signing, but he showed glimpses of his ability and also worked hard off the ball.
Scott Hogan: 8
Scored the all-important goal – his first of the season – and was a constant menace to the Forest defence. Has quality but is always prepared to work hard.
