Brentford B beat Stevenage despite Spurs loanee’s goal

Substitute Raphael Assibey-Mensah scored a late winner as Brentford B beat Stevenage 2-1 in a friendly on Tuesday.

Assibey-Mensah, 17, finished past 41-year-old Boro keeper Chris Day with just a couple of minutes remaining.

Stevenage’s Kaylen Hinds, on loan from Arsenal, had been particularly prominent early on, with a couple of dynamic runs – the first ended with a shot over the bar, the second brought a save from Bees keeper Ellery Balcombe.

Brentford took the lead midway through the first half. Ilias Chatzitheodoridis was brought down just outside the penalty area and Reece Cole (pictured) hit a superb free-kick into the top corner.

Stevenage equalised from the penalty spot in the 39th minute, after Chris Mepham had fouled Hinds, with Tottenham loanee Ryan Loft converting.

Andronicos Georgiou clipped the top of the bar for Stevenage, before Assibey-Mensah had the last word.
