Bees win shoot-out after 12-goal game

Dagenham & Redbridge 6 Brentford 6 (After extra time – Brentford win 4-2 on penalties)

Brentford needed penalties to reach the second round of the Capital One Cup after an extraordinary 12-goal thriller.

Richard Lee saved two penalties to see the Bees through with club captain Kevin O’Connor firing in the winning spot-kick after Stuart Dallas, Alan Judge and Tony Craig converted well.

Dallas had fired Brentford into a two-goal lead inside 10 minutes – the first an easy tap-in from close range whilst completely unmarked at the far post.

The Northern Ireland international added his second from the edge of the box via a deflection and the Bees looked to be heading for a straightforward evening.

But Ashley Hemmings caught them sleeping with a vicious low cross that was turned in by George Porter.

New signing from Hull, Nick Proschwitz, bagged his first Bees goal when he stole the ball from a Dagenham defender and tapped home from inside the box to make it 3-1.

But a defensive lapse allowed Chambers to break through on goal and lift the ball over Lee to make it 3-2 at half-time.

Lee should have done better with Andre Boucaud’s shot from distance that slipped through his hands for the equaliser.

Substitute Andre Gray thought he had won the game with his first Brentford goal on 83 minutes, but Hemmings forced extra time in dramatic fashion when he made it 4-4 right at the death.

Brentford youngster Montell Moore scored his first goal for the club early in extra time but the Daggers levelled for a third time six minutes later through Jamie Cureton.

Then the home side took the lead for the first time when Hemmings added his second, before Harlee Dean headed home against former club to make it 6-6 and force the shoot-out.

Chambers and substitute Jack Connors missed their kicks for Dagenham.
