Bees third after another superb victory

Cardiff City 2 Brentford 3

Brentford held off a second-half Cardiff fightback to clinch another superb win and move up to third in the Championship.

The Bees were 3-0 up at half-time following goals from Alex Pritchard, Andre Gray and Jota.

Craig Noone and Kenwyne Jones scored for Cardiff in the second half but the visitors saw the game out and are only two points behind leaders Bournemouth.

Cardiff were a threat early on but Brentford went ahead when on-loan Tottenham midfielder Pritchard completed a slick counter-attack by firing low into the net.

Pritchard then turned provider, setting up Gray whose clever chip over keeper David Marshall was the striker’s ninth goal in 21 appearances.

And Pritchard was also involved in the third goal, which came when Jota collected his pass and brilliantly fired home from near the edge of the penalty area.

The hosts responded after the interval when former Brentford loanee Kadeem Harris crossed for Noone to head in.

Jones scored from close range in the 75th minute but his team were unable to find an equaliser.
