Bees striker Grigg joins MK Dons on loan

Brentford striker Will Grigg has joined MK Dons on a season-long loan.

The 23-year-old, who joined after his contract at Walsall expired last summer, failed to establish himself as a first-team regular under manager Mark Warburton.

He made just 17 starts in all competitions last season, scoring four goals.

“The move is good for him. He’s going to a good club that play the game in the same way we do – a similar formation with a lead striker,” Warburton said.

“We are looking at bringing a front-line striker in and Will is too good to be regarded as a number two on the bench. So the boxes are all ticked and it’s good for all parties.”

Brentford paid an initial £325,000 in compensation for Grigg, and have to make further payments of £30,000 to Walsall for every 20 competitive matches he plays, up to a maximum of 100.

Brentford had to pay £50,000 to the Midlands club on promotion to the Championship last term, and would need to shell out another £250,000 if they reach the Premier League during Grigg’s time at Griffin Park.
