Bees ready to challenge Craig red card

Brentford boss Mark Warburton paid tribute to his team after they battled back to earn a point against Birmingham – and said the club would consider appealing against Tony Craig’s red card.

Craig was sent off after a quarter of an hour for a foul on former Bees striker Clayton Donaldson and Paul Caddis tucked away the resulting penalty.

But the home side were relentless in the second half and summer signing Moses Odubajo scored with 12 minutes remaining – his first goal for the club and the third time this season his team have battled back from a goal down.

“If it’s a penalty, I thought we had two defenders either side – it’s not a sending off. We’ll look at an appeal, definitely,” Warburton said after the 1-1 draw.

“Jake Bidwell also had a great shout for a penalty in the second half and nothing was given. The players felt very hard done by but they responded so well.

“I’m delighted with the boys. They showed tremendous character and application. You have to admire the quality and desire of the boys and I’m very proud of them.

“We could have been 2-0 down but we played very well in the second half, were positive and at the end of the game there was only one team in it.”

Warburton’s half-time introduction of the excellent Stuart Dallas helped change the course of the game and Odubajo caused Birmingham problems before taking his chance after a mistake by Jonathan Grounds.

“Stuart Dallas did a great job for us and Moses has great ability,” Warburton added.

“I’m really pleased for Moses. He’s had a niggling injury that has impacted his movement but today he looked a class act.”
