Bees lacked firepower on Hogan’s ‘off day’ – Smith

Dean Smith admitted after his side’s home defeat against Barnsley that Brentford lack another goal threat when Scott Hogan is misfiring.

The Bees have scored just once in their last four Championship games and top scorer Hogan missed chances during their first home loss of the season.

Boss Smith said: “This is one game we are looking at where we didn’t create an awful lot down one side. We’ve got to be more of a goal threat.

“It’s not that we didn’t create chances today – we did – but we didn’t take any. It was an off-day for Scott. He had three or four chances but didn’t get the contact he’d have liked.

“Our decisions were poor. There were a number of opportunities in the first half to play Scotty in, because they played a high line, but we took an extra touch instead and slowed the game down.

“We took Sam Saunders off because we felt we needed more pace out there to carry the ball the other way and I thought Josh Clarke did that in the second half.

“But it’s frustration and disappointment in the end. We were controlling the game and I thought we’d have taken one of our chances. Maxime Colun hit the bar and if he scores it’s a different game.

“People might expect us to beat Barnsley at home but the Championship is not easy.”
