Bees hero Judge savours ‘best moment’

Alan Judge described scoring the goal that sealed Brentford’s promotion to the Championship as the highlight of his career.

The Irishman, on loan from Blackburn, fired home from the penalty spot to secure a 1-0 win at home to Preston.

And defeats for Rotherham and Leyton Orient ensured the Bees will play in the second tier for the first time in 21 years.

“I don’t think I’ve ever been so nervous in my life taking a penalty. I was relieved when it went in,” said Judge, who later missed a penalty – but it mattered little.

“It hasn’t really sunk in yet. When I came here I just wanted to play games and try to contribute in some way, so to score the goal that got us promoted is unbelievable.

“It was the best moment of my career. I’ve captained my country at Under-21 level, which was a great honour, but to get a club promoted is great.”
