Bees’ Forshaw finalises Wigan switch

Adam Forshaw has completed his move from Brentford to Championship rivals Wigan Athletic.

The 22-year-old, last season’s League One player of the year, links up again with former Bees boss Uwe Rosler, now in charge of the Latics.

The deal ends a lengthy tug-of-war between Brentford and Wigan for Forshaw’s services.

The Bees had been reluctant to sell one of their prized assets but finally accepted an offer from Wigan last week when it met their valuation, having rejected two previous bids.

Forshaw has now agreed personal terms and leaves Griffin Park after making 100 appearances, scoring 11 goals.

Bees boss Mark Warburton said: “I would like to thank Adam for his efforts over the past two years at Brentford.

“Everyone here would like to wish him all the best for the future.”

Forshaw joined the Bees from Everton in the summer of 2012 and only signed a new three-year contract in 2013.

He had been with the Toffees since the age of eight, playing his first professional game in a Europa League tie against BATE Borisov in December 2009 and featuring in the Premier League against Wolves in April 2011.
