Bees boss wants two signings

Uwe Rosler wants two new players before the season gets underway.

The Brentford boss is keen to have a 23-man squad this term and is braced for a demanding start to the campaign, when his side face six matches before the end of August.

He could also be without Toumani Diagouraga, whose knee injury is still being assessed.

Rosler said: “Yes, I can clearly say we are looking to get players in. We have 20 players to choose from at the moment – and that’s including two goalkeepers. We are also waiting to hear what is happening with Toumani.

“We can’t go through the season with 18 outfield players, and we have six games in August. We want to bring in two more players and are in the process of doing that.”

It was with the early-season glut of games in mind that Rosler made changes to his team for Tuesday’s friendly against Watford, which ended in a 0-0 draw.

The result maintained Brentford’s unbeaten pre-season record and means they have kept clean sheets in three out of four matches.

But they were less impressive than when they beat Premier League Stoke City last week, and Rosler admitted: “I was pleased with the clean sheet, but I know we can do better. There’s room for improvement.

“We changed things a little bit from the Stoke game for one simple reason: we have those six games in August.

“It means I have to change things and make sure everyone gets the right amount of games so they are fit for the start of the season.

“Some players are suitable for some games and some for others. I’m new to the club and am still learning about them, so I need to have a look.

“There were still a lot of good things to come out of the (Watford) game. It was another clean sheet, this time against a Championship team, and we remain unbeaten in pre-season.

“I want to stay unbeaten so that we can grow in confidence and excitement ahead of the new season.”
