Bees boss has no regrets about team selection

Brentford boss Dean Smith had no regrets about naming an unchanged starting line-up for the game against Wigan.

The Bees, who beat Reading 4-1 in midweek, had to settle for a point at Griffin Park this time as the visitors dug in and secured a 0-0 draw.

Smith had Ryan Woods available again after suspension and Lewis Macleod back to full fitness, but he felt compelled to stick with the team that did so well against Reading.

“I’m dealing with young professionals who want to play every game,” said Smith.

“There was no reason to change the team from Tuesday night as it was such a good performance.

“I think it would have been very unjust to have left any of those players out.

“We’ve got a number of players who are pushing and that’s the sign of a good squad and good team.”

It was a frustrating afternoon for Brentford, and Lasse Vibe and Josh McEachran both picked up knocks, but Smith insisted his players will head into the international break in good spirits.

He said: “We’ve got time to rest and recover now. The lads will be tired, but we’ll be ready.”
