Bees boss hails ‘fantastic reaction’

Brentford manager Mark Warburton has hailed the reaction of his players to a turbulent week at the club.

Goals from Jonathan Douglas, Alex Pritchard and substitute Chris Long secured a 3-1 victory over promotion rivals Bournemouth and it appears their season is back on track following successive defeats.

Warburton said: “It was the perfect end to a difficult week.

“It was a fantastic reaction by a very talented group of players, we had character and commitment, and were outstanding.

“The whole team did well – all 18 of them involved – and Alex Pritchard was fabulous again because he enjoys those types of games.

“Bournemouth are a very good side. Eddie Howe and his team have done a great job assembling that squad and we knew the threat they’d pose.”

Brentford confirmed on Tuesday that Warburton will be replaced as manager at the end of the season but he insists their promotion push will not be derailed.

“It would be disrespectful to the players for us not to put everything into the rest of the season. They deserve nothing less,” he said.

“We’ve got 14 games now to be the best we can be and see where we are come May 2.”
