Smith wins to pick up European title

Mitchell Smith won the WBO European super-featherweight title with a landslide points victory against Zoltan Kovacs at the Excel Arena.

The Harrow Weald prospect, who recently turned 22, dominated the fight and floored his opponent with a left hook in the second round.

Kovacs was staggered by another left hook and a big right in the seventh but the Hungarian showed great determination to see out the full 10 rounds.

Smith was a thoroughly convincing winner despite not being at his fluent best and he extended his perfect record to 10-0.

Two of the judges had the bout 97-92 in his favour with the other scoring it 100-89.
