Boxing DeGale weighs in ahead of Zúñiga clash

James DeGale

James DeGale weighed in a shade under the 12-stone super-middleweight limit ahead of his clash with Fulgencio Zúñiga of Colombia.

Harlesden’s European champion will be looking to end 2012 on a high by seeing off Zúñiga at the Sports Arena in Hull on Saturday night.

His 35-year-old opponent has plenty experience, having faced former world champions Kelly Pavlik and Lucian Bute.

Zúñiga also challenged Tavoris Cloud for the IBF light-heavyweight crown two years ago.

The WBC silver title will be up for grabs and adding that to his European belt would represent another step on the road to a world title shot for DeGale.

He weighed 11st 13lbs 8oz, while Zúñiga came in well under the limit at 11st 10lbs 8oz.

“I’m feeling good and am ready to go,” DeGale told West London Sport.

“I’m expecting him to be tough but I know what I need to do. I’m looking to show off my boxing skills and put on a really good performance.”
